Do you need a digital SLR camera?. Point and shoots are so convenient and they take great pictures. So why would you upgrade to a digital SLR camera?
The truth is, you probably don’t. Point and shoot cameras are getting really sophisticated. Besides the “automatic” features, many of them allow some custom settings for aperture and shutter speed.
So why would you buy a digital SLR camera?
Sports Shots
If you’ve got kids in sports, you gotta get a digital SLR camera. You just can’t capture the shots with a point and shoot. Mainly because you can’t get close enough. At a football game, you might be able to get down on the 30 yard line. But that still puts you far from the action. You’ll need a long telephoto lens like a 70mm-200mm with a fast shutter speed of f2.8.
Now if you are shooting basketball or tennis, a shorter telephoto lens will work just fine.
Better Landscape Shots
This also has to do with lenses. A wide angled lens helps you capture everything in front of you. From your feet to the sky. And you’ll want a dSLR to be able to change out the lenses.
To Make Money
If you are interested in pursuing a career with photography, or you think you might in the future, you need a digital SLR camera. Studio work or submitting photos to magazines require a shot that is better than what you can get with a point and shoot camera.
Now I’m not saying you can’t get award winning shots with a point and shoot. I’m saying that to consistently shoot great photos, a dSLR is the way to go.
So if you fit into any of these categories, it’s time to step up. Your digital SLR camera will capture the shots you want. And they’ll be terrific.
