Do you have a digital SLR camera on your wish list? Most of us have lot of things on our wish list.
The cool thing about Amazon, is you can make a wish list, then let your friends and family know that you have a wish list. Get it? I make sure I keep inexpensive items like books on the list. And then there are the big things. Like digital SLR cameras.
May is National Photo Month and today I checked out the most wished for digital SLR cameras. Now, unlike sales stats, this list notes the cameras most wished for.
- Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 mp
- Nikon D3000 10.2 mp
- Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 mp
- Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 mp
- Canon EOS 7D 18 mp
- Nikon D5000 12.2 mp
- Canon EOS D5 Mark II 21.1 mp
- Nikon D90 DX 12.3 mp
- Canon Rebel XS 10.1 mp
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 12.1 mp
- Nikon D700 12.1 mp
- Nikon D300 12 mp
What is significant about these numbers is they show the direction the market is heading. A lot of photogs will tell you that the only real cameras are the big, expensive ones.
But as you can see from this list, consumers have a different view.
The first, full sensor camera is listed number 7. The two, new Nikon low-end cameras the D3000 and the D5000 are grabbing a significant market share. Canon can’t be too happy about that.
There is a micro four-thirds camera in the number 10 spot. The Panasonic Lumix is technically not a digital SLR camera, and yet it’s popularity is rising quickly. Bet Nikon and Canon are pretty perturbed about that one.
And, more mega-pixels isn’t always better. Unless you are blowing up all your photos greater than 8 x 10, having all those mega-pixels just isn’t important.
So what’s your favorite SLR camera? Did it make the list? Mine is the Nikon D5000. And I am pretty surprised at it’s position on the wish list.
So don’t let those photography snobs tell you you need to spend more money on your slr camera. You’re in great company!

The Best camera I have ever used is the EOS 1. This is by far the best user experience in any DSLR. Looks, feel and results. I believe the Canon is more organic in it’s feel and picture quality. Slightly better than a similar priced Nikon camera. Also the Canon 1D Mk4 has to be at this moment in time the best DSLR on the market. You have to pay for quality, which is a good thing.
Your photography is absolutely fabulous. I agree, a quality camera makes a difference!
I’ve got an old Minolta SLR which I’ve been extremely happy with, but I noticed the DSLR version didn’t make the list. That Canon looks pretty good, reckon I may just have a look at that one.

Canon have dominated the market for a couple years. But if the Minolta DSLR will work with the lenses you have, you can really save a lot of money!
I’ll have to keep that in mind, thanks for the tip.
