I have a Nikon digital SLR camera. It’s a Nikon D5000 and I love it. When I stepped up from a point and shoot I got tons of advice. Useless advice.
“Oh, you need lots of mega pixels”
Not unless you’re printing large pictures. Like bigger than 12 x 18 inches. And even then, anything over 6 mega-pixels is fine.
For the average person, the D5000 is the Nikon digital SLR camera to get.
SLRs are great for capturing things that move. Like kids in sports or wildlife. And things up close like flowers. I’ve analyzed my daughter’s swing in softball by capturing her whole swing in a series of pictures.
And I’m doing a 365 project and my focus is Pattern and Texture. As a photographer, I’ve spent a lot of time capturing the daily occurrences in my life. The family gatherings, the vacations, the school performances and sports. And I’ve spent a little time taking photographs for pure artistic expression. So I’ve chosen Pattern and Texture because those things are a challenge to capture in a 2 dimensional photo.
So if you’re thinking about purchasing Nikon digital SLR camera, don’t waste your money on all the bells and whistles. The Nikon D5000 can capture photos of every thing you need. And can also let you challenge your artistic expression.

I love my D5000. The flip out screen is awesome for shooting low or over your head.
I love the fact that the photos are so large that I can crop and get closeups. I can’t believe I waited so long to get this camera!

First of all I’ll say that I ordered my lens as soon as Amazon had them available. I upgraded to next day shipping and got it 18 hours later – quick service. Thanks Amazon!
