Portrait photography is beautiful and looks challenging. You have to have a studio, tons of camera gear, special backdrops, and all that fancy, expensive lighting.
Actually, none of that is true. I read a great blog post at David E. Jackson called Lighting with Cookware. He grabbed a bunch of pots and pans from under his counter and head over to a friends house to do a little photography. (and help move a couch)
No fancy studio, or backdrop, or camera gear, or lighting. He used every day items to manage the light source.
Portrait Photography – Books
And portrait photography isn’t hard to learn. Hard to master, yes, but not hard to learn. An easy way would be to get some books. Here are my picks from Amazon.
Portrait Photography – Online
A faster way would be to take an online course. I loved Discover the Secret to Portrait Photography. I learned the insider secrets and got great tips on photographing all different kinds of people. Like kids, and couples, and women, and groups. Click Here!
Other Options
There are many other ways you can learn to take portraits. Offer to assist a photographer for free, or take a class at a community college. Or just study great photographs and see if you can figure out what you like about them. If you are really interested in expanding your photography portfolio, why not portraits?
Do you have any great tips on shooting portraits? Leave them in the comments.
